The RAINBOW RIDERS DRILL TEAM

Nancy and Double Down at Cool August Nights

I have been riding with the team lineup since 1998. My horse’s name is Double Down, alias “Dubs, ”a 14 yr old sorrel registered quarter horse gelding. He takes care of me by doing his job of precision “listening” very well during drill. He is a quiet, reliable drill horse, though he has been known to “put on the burners” when called upon- especially during openings! (His nickname is “Lightning” at those times.) He is a trained reiner and does some great spins, stops & lead changes. He’s also great on trail. Dubs is the greatest partner in that he does his job with style and accuracy. Just don’t over-spur!

I have been horse crazy since I can remember: horse models only and no “Barbies” was my motto! Growing up in San Diego, I begged for a pony every year but the best I managed was riding lessons from age 10 to 18 at the old Kenmore Stables in Mission Valley and later at Bonita Valley Farms in Chula Vista.

There I started with English basics and moved on to pleasure saddlebreds. In College at UC Davis I rode in the jumping program & started dressage. Later, after my first real job, I bought my first horse and the rest was history!!  Trail riding was soon added and I started working/ managing horse camps during college summers. My riding has continued over the years. My experience was expanded in the past ten years by training with the very fine Pat Wyse. I also added some reining basics when I got Double Down about seven years ago. Now I enjoy trail riding, an occasional reining clinic with Pat, and the drill team.

Absolutely, what I love best about drill are my friends on the team. Everyone is great and we have lots of fun practicing and performing. Everyone is kind and trusting. I am proud of the level of excellence we seek and it’s a great goal for keeping my riding focused.

I love photography, history, travel, reading, and being with friends and family. I have a wonderful husband and two awesome teens. I teach 8th grade U.S. History which has kept me challenged and growing for many years!! Life is always interesting and I’m always seeking new experiences. I like to be challenged.
