"Lynnette and Honey Bear"

It amazes me to think that Honey Bear and I had been together for 35 years!  He was born at my house in Poway and was raised with the cows.  I started riding before I could remember.  My father would bring horses home from Mexico for me and my brothers and sisters to ride and chase cows in the the back forty.  Honey Bear was foaled from one of the herds my Dad brought home.

In 1983, Honey Bear and I started riding with the Poway Shooting Stars Drill Team; which quickly became our passion.  In 1995, my husband and I moved to Ramona and I joined the Rainbow Riders Drill Team.

In November 2005, I lost Honey Bear to old age - he was 35 years old and rode drill up to the day he was gone.  I am in the process of training my 3 year old quarter horse, Ransom, to take Honey Bear's place on the team.

Drill kept Honey Bear young and unless you got a close look, you would have never known he was old!  He was young at heart and acted like he was three - prancing at every parade and side-stepping and jigging on all trail rides.  He was one horse you could trust to be there and ready to go at a drop of a hat.  I will miss him.

This season, I will be borrowing a horse from one of the girls on team until my baby is up to the test.

To support my horses, I work for the Poway Unified School District as the Director of ESS (Before and After School Program) and have for the past 23 years.
